Here I will post different activities that you can do with your child. Once a week, I will add different topics such as Math, Social Emotional Learning, etc. If you have ideas that you would like to share, please email me and I will add to our list.
Language Arts
- Reading is such an important foundational skill. A major way that you support your child's success is by reading with them for at least 20 minutes each night. Take your time, do not rush through the book. Ask questions, such as, "what do you think will happen next?" When you are finished with the story ask questions about the characters, and ask them to retell the story in their own words. See if your child can relate the story to anything in his or her life. - Scavenger hunts- Have your child find an object around your house that begins with each letter of the alphabet. You can break this up throughout the week. Maybe start with the first three letters one day and so on. Have them draw a picture of the item and try to spell the word by sounding it out. Try not to simply tell them how to spell the word without letting them try first. You can keep these in a journal or put loose papers in a folder. They can bring this to class if they would like to share with the class or small groups what they found.
- Silly sentences- Help your child create silly sentences with every word starting with the same letter. You can do this one anywhere, at home, in the car, at the grocery store.
